Clippers’ Russell Westbrook suffers shocking injury on bobblehead night vs. Wizards

Russell Westbrook, the sole LA Clippers player to have participated in every game this season, may soon see an end to his streak due to an unfortunate development.

Despite the Clippers enjoying relative health throughout the season, they now face the prospect of an extended absence for Westbrook, a key member of their rotation.

Westbrook sustained a left hand fracture during Friday night’s game against the Washington Wizards, forcing him to exit the game prematurely.

The exact timing of the injury remains unclear, but it seemed to occur in the second quarter while defending Jordan Poole.

Westbrook, after attempting to poke at the ball from behind, immediately grasped his hand, expressing discomfort.

Despite flexing and stretching his finger in an attempt to alleviate the pain, Westbrook continued to play a few more possessions before being sidelined for the remainder of the first half.

Imaging conducted at halftime confirmed the left hand fracture.

Throughout his NBA career, Westbrook has maintained a relatively healthy record, playing in at least 73 games in each of the last two seasons.

In the shortened 2020-21 season, he participated in 65 games, and in the 2019-20 season, he played in 57 games.

Up until this recent setback, Westbrook had appeared in all 58 games for the Clippers this season, delivering an average performance of 11.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in 22.8 minutes per game.

Despite Westbrook’s injury, the Clippers secured their 38th win of the season by defeating the Washington Wizards on Friday night.
