Luka Doncic gets real on Kristaps Porzingis-Celtics fit

Luka Doncic acknowledges the realness of his former teammate, Kristaps Porzingis. The duo, once part of a promising Dallas Mavericks squad, eventually went separate ways, with Porzingis finding a new home with the talented Boston Celtics, alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

In their recent matchup, Porzingis, now a key player for the Celtics, led his team to victory against the Mavericks on Friday, contributing 24 points and six rebounds.

Following the game, Luka Doncic shared his thoughts on Porzingis‘ performance and his seamless integration into the Celtics’ lineup in a conversation with Grant Afseth of Sports Illustrated.

Doncic praised Porzingis, stating, “He was just popping and shooting that thing, you know? He’s been a great addition to them. I talked to him for a little bit, and he’s really happy that he’s here. So I’m happy for him, too.”

Kristaps Porzingis faced skepticism when the New York Knicks selected him fourth overall in the 2015 NBA Draft.

However, he quickly silenced critics and showcased signs of stardom early in his career. Ahead of the 2019-20 season, Porzingis joined forces with Dallas, aiming to form a dynamic duo with the emerging superstar, Luka Doncic.

Despite facing challenges during his tenure in Dallas, Porzingis and Doncic created lasting memories together. However, the Mavericks traded Porzingis to the Washington Wizards during the 2021-22 campaign.

Currently in his first year with the Celtics, Porzingis has revitalized his career, contributing to the team’s status as the current leader in the NBA standings.

Luka Doncic, impressed by Porzingis’ standout performance, also expressed his belief in Porzingis’ fit within the Boston Celtics.

Recognizing the team’s need for a reliable post presence alongside Tatum and Brown, Doncic sees Porzingis as the perfect solution.

The Celtics are now considered legitimate contenders for the NBA Finals, while the Mavericks, led by Luka, harbor serious playoff aspirations despite the challenges faced during the 2023-24 season.

The team possesses the potential to upset some of the Western Conference’s top contenders.
