Multiple Errors Found on Recently Unveiled Kobe Bryant Lakers Statue

Kobe Bryant, a basketball icon, devoted 20 years to the Los Angeles Lakers before retiring in 2016. Four years ago, the basketball community suffered a profound loss as Bryant, along with his daughter, tragically perished in a helicopter crash. Despite the heartbreaking end, Bryant left an indelible mark on the NBA.

During his illustrious career, the Lakers legend secured five championships and set numerous records for the team. Lakers fans will forever cherish Bryant’s contributions to the organization. In February, as a tribute to his enduring legacy, the Lakers unveiled a statue of the legendary player outside the Crypto.com Arena. Fans were elated to see Bryant rightfully take his place among Lakers’ legends.

However, a few weeks after the statue’s unveiling, eagle-eyed fans noticed several errors on the monument. Some names, including that of Bryant’s teammate Von Wafer and the Toronto Raptors’ Jose Calderon from the historic 81-point game, were misspelled in the box score. Additionally, there were inaccuracies, such as the misspelling of ‘coach’s decision.’

The revelation of these errors infuriated fans, who demanded swift corrections. It appeared that the organization was already aware of the mistakes. A Lakers spokesperson addressed the issue, stating, “We have been aware of this for a few weeks and are already working to get it corrected soon.”

On Monday, the Lakers made an official statement confirming their commitment to rectifying the errors, indicating that they were in the process of making the necessary changes.

Notably, during the initial statue unveiling ceremony in February, attended by basketball luminaries, Bryant’s wife Vanessa Bryant revealed that it was the first of three statues planned for the star in Los Angeles.
