Patrick Mouratoglou’s assertion: Carlos Alcaraz can’t stop Novak Djokovic from claiming further Grand Slam titles.
|Carlos Alcaraz has undeniably sparked a significant transformation in men’s tennis over the last year. The Spaniard reached the highest echelon of the sport by triumphing over none other than the tennis legend Novak Djokovic in the finals of the 2023 Wimbledon just last month. Now, at the age of 20, he sets his sights on preserving his title at the upcoming 2023 US Open, scheduled to kick off later this month.
The French tennis coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, has offered his perspective on the ongoing rivalry between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. According to him, these two adversaries are poised to vie for prestigious titles in the coming years. What’s even more intriguing, the Frenchman does not foresee Carlos Alcaraz preventing the Serbian from adding more Grand Slam titles to his collection.
In this context, Novak Djokovic suffered his first defeat on Centre Court in over a decade and his first loss at the Championships in six years. The 36-year-old fought valiantly in a five-set final, but in the end, he was left grappling for solutions during the decisive set. Patrick Mouratoglou suggests that the Serbian tennis star lost the final due to the immense pressure placed on him by his opponent.
“I believe that consistently being seen as the ultimate favorite and constantly playing for historical achievements can become burdensome. So now, with Carlos also being considered a favorite, Novak might feel less encumbered the next time they face off. Will Carlos (Alcaraz) prevent Novak from winning any more Grand Slams? I don’t think so. Will they both claim some titles, with Novak and Carlos each having their share? I believe that’s a possibility,” remarked the French tennis coach.
