Shaq Critiques Luka Doncic: Questions if Rising Star Matches Greatest Players’ Standards

Shaquille O’Neal responded to Charles Barkley’s remarks regarding Luka Doncic’s impact on the Dallas Mavericks’ performance. Barkley had suggested that despite Doncic’s impressive individual statistics, the team should be winning more, and the young star should focus on playing without the ball.

Expressing his frustration with the Mavericks’ recent struggles, Barkley emphasized the need for Doncic to involve his teammates more and not solely rely on scoring. He stated, “The Maverick frustrate me so much ’cause they should be so much better. We make a big deal out of Luka’s numbers; his numbers should be going down… he’s gotta do a much better job getting rid of the ball, using those other guys.”

Barkley pointed out that despite Doncic’s greatness, he should learn to play without the basketball, especially when surrounded by talented teammates. He added, “When you play with better players as a great player, the game should be easier, not harder; your numbers should go down, not up… that’s why they’re losing.”

However, Shaq disagreed with Barkley’s perspective. While Kenny “The Jet” Smith sided with Barkley, questioning whether Doncic’s scoring is a result of teamwork or individual effort, O’Neal offered a differing viewpoint on the impact of the young star’s playing style on the Mavericks’ overall performance.
